I had the amazing opportunity to work with Chip Foose and a very talented team on the "Challenging Mopar" episode of Overhaulin' which aired October 12, 2004 on The Learning Channel (TLC). We spent one week at Street Concepts in Huntington Beach, CA, overhauling a '71 Dodge Challenger named DOK belonging to James and Stephanie from Rancho Cucamonga, CA. We started with a pretty good road-worthy Challenger that like a lot of old Mopars was just plain worn out. The car was stripped down to just a shell and in seven short days the team replaced the suspension and brakes, gave it a Foose custom three-tone paint job, all new custom interior and gauge cluster, and added a 2,000-watt sound system. As for my portion, we completely cleaned, detailed, and resealed the engine, painted it silver to match the body stripe, and replaced all the accessory pulleys and brackets with billet aluminum parts. All in all it was a lot of hard work with very little sleep, but it was a great experience working with Chip, the A-Team, and the whole crew. Count me in on the next Mopar overhaul! - John |
Chip Foose's Sketch Here's a photo we took of Chip's sketch of his design for Overhaulin's 2nd Mopar, a '69 Road Runner Convertible. Chris Jacobs' Mopars Overhaulin' host Chris Jacobs and I met during "Challenging Mopar" and when he heard we opened Icon he called to discuss having work done on a few of his Mopars. Chris brought us his '68 Sport Fury convertible for an electronic ignition conversion, tune-up, engine detail and car detail. Next, he brought in his '69 GTX for an engine rebuild, new Six Pac setup and rewiring. |

DOK Gets a 440 - engine details - photos March 2005 - Despite all the wonderful work Overhaulin' did on the Challenger, the car never got the engine it deserved due to production limitations. So, I decided the minute I was told they weren't going to replace the engine that I would build a real strong 440 to give to James and Stephanie. DOK should have nothing less! And timing worked out perfectly since we just opened our new shop in time for DOK's upgrade and car show debut at this year's Spring Fling. DOK Won Twice at Spring Fling XIX - photos April 2005 - James and Stephanie took home two awards from Spring Fling XIX: 1st Place E-Body Modified and Editor's Choice by Mopar Muscle Magazine! Congratulations James and Stephanie! DOK Won at Mopars in May - photos May 2005 - Congratulations James and Stephanie for winning 1st Place E-Body Modified at Mopars in May! DOK Gets Mirrors - photos September 2005 - We took DOK over to Foose Design in Huntington Beach so Chip could add a finishing touch of side mirrors. The installation went quickly and Chip was a gracious host as we watched him intently and snapped photos while he worked. |
